Boomin Reunion Band Rendition of 'Midnight Special' Has an Interesting Back Story

When the Midnight Special TV series was on the air, it was Johnny Rivers who sang the show's opening. Years later, when they decided to bring back Midnight Special as a syndicated TV show, they encountered difficulty with Rivers in using the open. Rather than do battle with him, the producers brought in Ron Dante (Archie, Detergents, Cufflinks) to recreate the open sans Rivers. The result was that Dante became as well known for the Midnight Special song among his fans and he then recorded his version. Boomin Reunion Band Salutes Donnie Brooks and His Mission Bell Hit Song

One of our favorite people in recording the Boomin Reunion Band TV Show was Donnie Brooks. A member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, Done had a  Cash Box Top 40 hit in 1959-60 called Mission Bell.  He continued his singing career for decades and also became an agent for other Rock & Roll stars of the era. He was an integral part of the Boomin Reunion TV show. I'll always remember his Gold lame bib when we had meals together and the fun we had hanging ut with iconic guitar player Jerry Cole in Hollywood. Tragically, Jerry died suddenly before we could record an album with him. What a loss for us all.
